Face Lift

A Better Facial Surgeon :

Facelift (rhytidectomy) is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to help men and women achieve a more youthful facial appearance. As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and begins to sag. This process can leave your face looking tired and worn, with deep wrinkles, hollow cheeks, jowls and loose skin in the lower face and neck. Facelift can address all of these issues and help you look 10 or even 20 years younger.

Ideal Candidates :

The usual candidates are men and women over the age of 40 years having

A deep line, or fold, running from the corner of your nose to the corner of your mouth.

Jowls, or loss of a well-defined jawline associated with youthfulness.

Deep wrinkles in the cheeks and sagging of the “highlight” areas of the cheekbones.

Loose skin, wrinkles, vertical “cords” or excess fatty tissue in the neck.

BENEFITS OF HAVING FACE LIFT SURGERY

Increased self-confidence and self-esteem

Looking younger

Feeling rejuvenated and fresher

Ability to wear clothes with lower necklines – no longer the need to hide behind a scarf / high-necked top

Easier application of make-up

Procedure :

There are three main types of face lift surgery; traditional, minimal access cranial suspension (MACS) and keyhole surgery. Your surgeon will advise you on which method is most suitable foryou. For many people, combining a face lift with neck lift surgery ensures that the overall appearance is rejuvenated and patients who undergo this combination of procedures have reported looking 10 years younger.

Traditional face lift :

A traditional face lift will involve your surgeon making a surgical incision along your hairline, down past the front of your ears and into the hairline behind the ears. Because of the careful positioning of the incision, your scarring will be hidden within the hair and natural creases of the face and it will fade quickly until it is barely visible. Once the incision has been made the surgeon will very carefully separate the skin from the underlying tissue, before repositioning excess fat and tightening facial muscles. The skin will then be lifted and stitched into place along the original incision and any excess skin removed.

Minimal-access cranial suspension (MACS) :

The main difference between this type of face lift surgery and the traditional method is that the incisions made are smaller and the tightening of facial muscles and removal of excess fat is done through these small surgical incisions. Excess fat can also be removed using this face lift procedure.

Keyhole surgery :

If keyhole surgery is the right option for you, your surgeon will make several very small incisions into the skin on your face. Then he or she will feed a telescopic camera, called an endoscope, beneath the skin and the live image will be displayed on a monitor – it is from this that the surgeon can see exactly which muscles to tighten and how much excess fat to remove, if any. Keyhole surgery is most commonly used for brow lifts and upper face lifts and offers a short recovery time and will result in less scarring, but it is not suitable for everyone.

Instructions Before Surgery :

Avoid aspirin and aspirin-containing medicines for two weeks prior to surgery as they tend to significantly increase bruising.

Smoking tobacco and alcohol increase anesthetic and surgical risks. Please cease them for One to two weeks prior to and three weeks following surgery. They cause delayed wound healing, skin redness and other complications.

Please notify us of all your routine medications and significant health history. You can remain on your daily medications, except for blood thinners unless instructed otherwise.

Arnica, a natural herb that significantly decreases bruising, can be taken before and after surgery along with Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), which helps promote healing.

If you are having a morning procedure you must not eat or drink after midnight the eveningbefore. If you are having an afternoon procedure you must not eat or drink after 6.00am on the morning of surgery. You may, however, take your normal medications and brush your teeth.

Please shower and remove any make-up and nail polish before arriving for your procedure.

If you have any concerns please call the office. Remember, we are all here to give you the best possible care.

Instructions After Surgery :

Some degree of swelling and bruising is unavoidable, and hence is advised to use cold compresses to keep swelling to a minimum.

If a dressing has been applied, it will be removed within one to two days.

Patient needs to keep head elevated when lying down, to avoid as much activity as possible,

Drainagetube inserted during surgery will be removed on the first or second day after surgery.

Compression garment may have to be worn for a few week.

It is important not to perform any strenuous activity after surgery to avoid tension on the wound, which could stretch your incisions and cause scarring.

The nerves near the ears can be traumatized and you may feel numbness for some time, but this is usually temporary until the nerves mend and you will gradually obtain normal sensation, this may take up to 12 months.
